Industry Application

Semiconductor

High-performance stainless steel provides superior corrosion resistance and mechanical stability for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, ensuring precision and long-term reliability in wafer processing.

Problem to Material Route

Ultra-pure process environments are contaminated by particle shedding, surface oxidation and outgassing from materials that would perform acceptably in standard industrial applications.

316L is the most commonly specified stainless grade for semiconductor process equipment due to its low carbon content, chemical resistance and surface finish compatibility with electropolishing. Surface finish requirements — Ra values, passivation standards and cleanliness protocols — are defined by equipment specification and process requirement, not by material grade alone. Supply chain documentation, heat number traceability and controlled handling are typically required. Material selection should be confirmed against the specific process chemistry and cleanliness standard.

Operating Risk

Particle contamination from surface oxides or mechanical damage during handling, outgassing from inadequate surface preparation in vacuum process environments, chemical attack from aggressive etchants if grade or finish is mismatched to the process

Operating Context

Industry Overview

In the semiconductor industry, material purity and stability are critical factors that directly impact yield and device performance. Our high-purity stainless steel delivers excellent corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, and chemical stability, making it ideal for applications in wafer fabrication, lithography systems, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and etching equipment. Electropolished surfaces with controlled Ra roughness values minimize particle generation and outgassing, supporting clean-room contamination-control requirements across these process environments.
