Problem to Material Route

Chemical media attack steel through mechanisms — uniform corrosion, pitting, crevice and stress corrosion — that vary with concentration, temperature and flow velocity, not just with the chemical name.

316L is commonly specified for mild acid, solvent and aqueous chemical service where chloride levels are moderate and temperatures are below 60°C. 2205 is often considered where higher chloride concentrations, elevated temperatures or pressure requirements push beyond the safe operating range of 316L. 2507 may be evaluated for aggressive mixed-acid or high-chloride services where standard duplex grades show accelerated attack. Grade selection should be based on actual media composition, concentration and operating temperature rather than generic chemical family classification.
